Introducing Taylor Scott Moss

Wow, I can't believe it's been over a YEAR since I blogged! I don't know if anyone will still read this but I need need to journal and this is a nice way to do it.

Our second baby boy was born August 18th, 2013 at 8:52am 7lb 15 oz, 21 inches. Perfection.

Here is his story:

I was due August 13th but apparently my babies like to cook extra long. On August 16th around midnight (a Friday) my mom arrived from her long car drive from Oregon. On Saturday instead of just sitting around Derek, Adam, my mom and I decided to go to the Idaho Falls zoo. We had never been. Adam loved it! That night we watched a movie and I was having some contractions. They were about every 10 minutes...Then they stopped. That whole week had been exhausting. I was ready for baby a couple weeks before and after that it just felt like I was doing 'one more load' of laundry or 'one more grocery run' so that we'd be ready. Then we use that food or those clothes and I'd have to do it again. I was getting tired of telling everyone when I was due or how I was feeling - all asked in kindness. That night I broke down and was frustrated that the contractions weren't consistent. Why have this pain anyway if it's not continuing?

Well, we decided to just try and sleep and at 1am I woke up - with contractions! Around 1:30 Adam woke up crying and Derek went to comfort him ... and fell asleep. At that point I began timing my contractions - they were every 10 minutes for almost a minute. I continued to do that until 3:00am when I finally went and got Derek. At this point they were every 5 minutes for a minute. We decided if they continued like this for another hour we'd go into the hospital. We left for the hospital about 4am - I woke my mom up and told her we were leaving - so grateful she was there to be with Adam! We got to Pocatello around 4:30am. Once we got checked in and settled they checked me "to see if I could stay". I was at a 5! Yep, this was it!

They gave me an IV (while doing so I got light headed and faint). They laid me down and gave me oxygen (first of three times that morning I got light headed and needed oxygen). I continued to labor and around 6:30am the anesthesiologists were switching shifts and I decided to get the epidural then because we were moving fast. It took an hour to get the epidural. I had a positive reaction when he gave me the first shot - meaning they did a test dose and I had ringing in my ears and felt faint. He gave another shot and this time no response. They laid me down and administered the anesthetic and I was faint again - feeling nauseous. That was due to the medicine. I finally started feeling better at almost 7:30am. They checked me and I was at at 8! At 7:45 I was a 9! Then 8:00 back to an 8. All the doctors and nurses were ready to go but because I was at an 8 again they decided to let me rest. I took a 20 minute nap and when I woke up I had the urge to push. I was at a 10! Once they got everything set up I began to push. The doctors and nurses were getting excited and Derek told me later he was confused. I pushed for almost an hour and a half with Adam and he figured it'd be similar. I only pushed for 10 minutes. I felt like I knew how to push this time - felt more efficient. At 8:52am Taylor Scott Moss arrived! He was perfect!

I loved holding him for the first time. It's just such a miracle. This warm little body was inside of me not moments ago. I was so proud of him and of me and of Derek. We did it.

Taylor had some fluid in his lungs but he was able to work it out himself. He didn't feed the first two times I tried. A nurse came helped me and we worked with him for a half hour but because it was hard for him to breathe, it was hard to eat. However, later on the third time, he started to get the hang of it.

Adam and my mom came that morning and Adam got to see his little brother. He was so sweet. He is such a sweet brother. I am so grateful for our family of four. Me and my boys :)
