Padre Island

This weekend was Memorial Day and thus one of the two days the boys and Derek and I have off from work this summer. So we drove 4 hours to South Padre Island, a beautiful beach in Southern Texas. We had a blast. Derek and I took Travis (Derek's brother), Jimmy (Travis's roommate) and Blair (Derek and Travis's cousin) along for the ride. Jimmy and I had never swam in the ocean - in face Jimmy had never even SEEN the ocean. And I'm an Oregonian and have only gotten wet to my ankles because the water is so freezing! However, this was warmer than pool water and although I have to admit that swallowing salt water is really not fun I had a blast! We had lunch beforehand at a restaurant by the shore and really just played 500 and swam with the waves the whole day. Unfortunately I'm not sure how to put video up yet because since the move I can't find the cords but I did get some footage and will put it up when I can. Although I don't have pictures to show we all have sunburns. It was a reality check basking in the sun all day to realize that I spend most of my time indoors and my poor white skin is not used to this. That night I lay on our bed with wet towels but shivering because I was cold. Oh well, at least now I'll look a little tan when I go home to Oregon in 2 days!!
